A TYPED COPY OF ALFRED JODL’S CREDENTIALS TO NEGOTIATE PEACE WITH THE ALLIES SIGNED BY KARL DONITZ
On May 6 1945 shortly before his departure from Flensburg to negotiate surrender terms at SHAEF Headquarters in Reims Field Marshal Alfred Jodl was issued official credentials signed by German president Admiral Karl Donitz allowing him to represent the German government in the talks. Offered here is an original typed transcript of Jodl’s credentials signed by Donitz in the post-war years. The transcript one page in length was originally signed at “Headquarters” in Flensburg on May 6 1945. It reads in full: “I authorize Colonel General Jodl Chief of the Operations Staff in the High Command of the Armed Forces to negotiate an armistice agreement with the headquarters of General Eisenhower.” This typescript of the original document bears Donitz’s post-war signature at bottom to which he added the date of signing: “2.3.79” Fine condition.
