Arthur Clifton Goodwin was a self-taught American Impressionist celebrated for his depictions of Boston and New York City at the turn of the 20th century. He began painting around the age of 30 and, despite lacking formal training, he developed an ability to sensitively depict light and atmosphere, a soft, luminous atmosphere characteristic of his pastels, as seen in the present example.
