Adolf Arthur Dehn (1895-1968) Nostalgia 1928 The rare lithograph numbered 12 from an edition of only 20 images printed on chine colle' is signed and dated by the artist in pencil below the image lower right, and titled lower left. Dehn also created a nearly identical ink sketch the same year titled Black Man in Paris. This and titles like Harlem Orchids , Frankie and Johnny in Paris , Gladys at the Clam House , Swinging at the Savoy and others offered here show Dehn encountering the racially and sexually liberated atmosphere of Jazz Age Paris and, later, Harlem. During the 1920s Dehn immersed himself in the cafes, cabarets, theaters and nightlife of Paris, Vienna and Berlin, developing an eye for human behavior that would define his graphic work in Europe, and later in Harlem, where he continued to lampoon performers and spectators alike.
