Adolf Arthur Dehn (1895-1968) Queen of Key West 1949 The lithograph, numbered 22 from an edition of only 33 prints, is signed and dated by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left. This very rare print is unframed and was acquired directly from the artist's family. It appears this composition originated as a 30 × 20-inch painting of the same title and composition. Adolf Dehn taught summer classes at the Norton Gallery School of Art in West Palm Beach throughout the 1940s. Key West became an important source of subjects for his paintings, watercolors and prints. In 1949 the composition was interpreted as a lithograph now recorded as no. 465 in the Dehn print catalogue. A museum example, numbered 2/33, is held by the Radford University Art Museum. No record of this image having ever appeared at auction, or sold in dealer offerings, could be found searching databases going back 30-plus years.
