CHIKUBOSAI I FLOWER ARRANGING BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The rustic richly colored flower arranging basket is woven in hexagonal openwork weave constructed from unusually thick, rounded split-bamboo stays. The handle is punctuated along its apex by elaborate raised butterfly rosette knots and vertical side stays are notable for their multi-strand braided attachments and whip-stitched terminals. The mouth has a thick, rope-twisted bundle rim that curves inward to hold the water liner. The base rests on a matching, coiled-bamboo circular foot ring. The basket is finished in a lustrous, warm chestnut-to-garnet brown lacquer. The bamboo insert is apparently original, a tomobako is included, Measures 20 x 10.25 inches in diameter.
