JAPANESE BAMBOO BASKET ATTR WAICHISAI III, ADAIR ESTATE - The fruit basket form vessel with metal liner is presumably for flower arrangement given the presence of a tight liner. It features a wide, shallow, circular basin supported by an elevated circular base ring constructed in a finely split smoked bamboo of open hex-plaiting across the interior center transitioning to tight diagonal twill-plaiting along the sloping sides with a thick rattan-bound double rim. The handle is built from three bent bamboo staves covered in a band of raised, elaborate interlocking chevron-weave knotting set between bands of dense, parallel coil wrapping, the splitting forks anchored to the sides with intricate braided rattan knotwork (musubi-namawa). The original tomobako and metal liner are included. Measures 12 x 13.5 inches in diameter.
