YAMASHITA KOCHIKUSAI (1876-1947) IKEBANA BASKET, ADAIR - The fine architectural Japanese bamboo flower vessel of square-sectioned columnar profile features a precise, openwork geometric lattice with four outer corners braced by stout bamboo columns extending to four buttress foot pegs. The vessel transitions at the shoulder into a tightly plaited collar and rolled rim below the high-arching double-strand handle bound at regular intervals with fine butterfly knot complexes. The underside is braced with a dual cross-bar structure engraved with the maker's signature. The basket displays a rich, dark espresso-toned lacquer finish throughout. Later box.
