A TALL JAPANESE BAMBOO BASKET FOR IKEBANA, ADAIR ESTATE - The tall, cylindrical vessel of balanced proportions and rhythmic texture is constructed using an overlapping vertical-stay weave with sweeping, diagonal bamboo overlays of wide, flat diagonal pieces in spiraling motion. The monumental rope-braid handle is skillfully constructed from multiple strands of split bamboo twisted into a thick, uniform cords that branch into four individual stays where it meets the rim. The bamboo patina resembles a tiger-striped with deep blacks and orange-amber highlights. The vessel sits on a flared pedestal foot with rattan border. Measures 22 x 8 x 8 inches.
