TANABE CHIKUUNSAI FLOWER ARRANGING BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The elegant and precisely woven Japanese bamboo basket with unusual carved detail on the base rim is constructed as an inverted-pear or jar-shaped silhouette that broadens toward the shoulder before rounding inward to a thick, rolled rim wrapped in extraordinary precision. The body is finely executed in fine hexagonal openwork plaiting and twining reinforced by vertical herringbone braided ribbing extending down its sides. The high handle is densely wrapped in fine rattan/bamboo weave with intricate patterning along the spine. The basket sits upon a hexagonal frame with unusual carved designs with ebonised detail. The bamboo is finished in a lustrous, dark chocolate-to-auburn patina; and accompanied by the original bamboo liner and tomobako. Measures 20.510.75 inches in diameter.
