A FINE HEXAGONAL WEAVE JAPANESE BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The artist-signed flower arranging basket is constructed in a delicate fine-gauge hexagonal openwork mesh framed by six finely laced vertical rattan-wrapped corner stays. The upper opening transitions into a rope-twisted bundle rim encircled by a delicate scalloped collar of thin looping bamboo rings. The gracefully arched handle is bound with fine rattan wrapping and accentuated by interlocking V-knots. The base rests on a hand bent hexagonal foot ring reinforced by a six-point star cross-brace engraved with the artist's signature. The finish is a uniform deep chocolate-brown patina. The original fitted dark bamboo liner is included along with a period paulownia wood tomobako. Measures 16 x 6.5 inches in diameter.
