AN UNUSUAL FLOWER ARRANGING BASKET SIGNED CHIKUBOSAI I - The wide, shallow circular floral presentation basket is woven with a spiraled core that transitions into a wider, structural matrix while the entire perimeter is framed by a heavily bundled, thickly coiled outer rim above a similarly wrapped circular rim foot. The circumference is spanned by a striking gnarled, asymmetrical handle of deeply patinated natural bamboo rhizome having pronounced growth nodes and natural bends. The handle is bound securely to the body by complex, multi-strand cross-braided rattan knots. The base of the basket is anchored by a thick, polished central bamboo stay having hand-engraved signature. The inscribed tomabako is included. Measures 7 x 11.5 inches in diameter.
