JAPANESE BASKET SIGNED MAEDA CHIKUBOSA I, ADAIR ESTATE - The finely crafted, dark-lacquered Japanese bamboo flower basket is with openwork flanged rim decorated and constructed with interlocking circular loops, the body is constructed in a precise hexagonal lattice above a tightly plaited lower basin supported by a robust polygonal foot ring of hand bent bamboo. The handle is constructed from layered, split bamboo stalks wrapped tightly to form a single, sturdy arch. The apex is accented by a small, integrated decorative loop knot. The work has a warm mahogany overall patina, and an unusual bamboo trough insert. Measures 13 x 14 inches in diameter.
