AN ARTIST-SIGNED HANGING HANAKAGO, ADAIR ESTATE - The darkly patinated Japanese bamboo flower basket features a wide flanged rim, woven lattice body finely woven with an expansive, wide-flaring mouth bordered by a dramatic double-ring openwork flange, and a distinct double-arched overhead handle, the upper walls are executed in a delicate, airy open hex plaiting above dense diagonal twill plaiting forming the lower body and rounded base. The structure is anchored by a sturdy, multi-strand split bamboo overhead handle attached securely to the rim with traditional rattan knotting, The base is a sturdy, hand-bent hexagonal rim reinforced with wide, overlapping bamboo slats arranged in a six-pointed star structural configuration. The entire vessel is finished in a deep, rich chestnut-brown lacquer patination. Measures 11.5 x 13.25 inches in diameter.
