WADA WAICHISAI III BAMBOO IKEBANA BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The tall cylindrical hanging flower basket is constructed in openwork diamond lattice rising to an upper shoulder woven in a wide band of dense, finely coiled rattan wrapping above which the body flares outward into a broad mouth crowned by a heavy rope-twisted bundle rim enclosing the mouth. The unique handle transitions from rope twist to flat laced bamboo slats. The handle sides are anchored by an elaborate four-pronged wishbone base woven from spiraled bamboo splints that merge smoothly at the apex. The vessel rests on a coiled bamboo foot ring and is finished throughout in a deep, lustrous chestnut-brown lacquer. The hanakago is complete with bamboo water insert and inscribed tomobako.
