MADEA CHIKUBOSAI (1872-1950) HANAKAGO, ADAIR ESTATE - The finely constructed, shallow bowl-shaped Japanese tea ceremony bamboo flower basket features a substantial triple-branched overhead handle and a matching fitted copper liner. The exterior walls are constructed using alternating vertical overlay strands over a tight, dark-lacquered structural matrix with geometric precision. The handle features three separate split-bamboo stalks that merge into a single, tightly wrapped arch adorned and secured by interlocking V-knots, and anchored with complex, braided rattan knots. The rim is a very complex weave densely stacked. Presumably the original copper liner. Measures 18 x 17.5 inches in diameter.
