WADA WAICHISAI I BAMBOO SENCHA TEA BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The sencha tea utensil lidded carrying basket is lined in cloth for protection of porcelain utensils. The container is executed in a compound plaiting mat weave reinforced with vertical corner supports secured by a variety of intricate skillfully executed chevron and butterfly knotting. The overhanging fitted lid features tight twill plaiting framed by a heavily braided rim. Each narrow end is elaborately knotted and tied and centered by double braided-rattan ring handles suspended from woven loops on each narrow side for carrying or securing straps. The base is further detailed by scattered examples of outstanding bundles of intricate knotting, A very fine example with outstanding time-worn patina. Measures 10.25 x 15 x 8 inches.
