HAYAKAWA SHOKOSAI I SENCHA TEA BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The fine and rare Japanese bamboo tea basket is woven in diagonal twill plaiting. The hinged lid opens to reveal an interior fitted with a removable, openwork inner woven tray and lined in gold-and-ochre floral silk brocade. Flanking the sides are dual swing handles held by heavy braided rattan hinges secured by tightly wrapped vertical stays. The central bamboo support bar on the base is hand-engraved with the artist's signature, accompanied by the original paulownia wood box complete with certifying inscriptions.
