TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II TEA CEREMONY BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The wide, low-profile basket displays complex radiating spiderweb plaiting expanding outward into a wide, heavily wrapped rolled rim. The lower body is framed with open vertical bamboo panels that coincide with the woven hexagonal foot ring The handle is hand-carved with openwork wooden or thick bamboo rings that act as anchor brackets. Flanking these loops are decorative, perfectly wound concentric circle stays made of tightly wrapped fine rattan splits joining the rim with two beautifully carved openwork wooden loop terminals and detailed concentric rattan ring buttresses and suspension supports. The entire ensemble is finished in a uniform, lustrous dark espresso lacquer patina. It is accompanied by its original matching wood storage box bearing ink signatures and dual artist seals.
