HANDSOME BAMBOO BASKET SIGNED CHIKUBOSAI, ADAIR ESTATE - The fine and handsome example blends an architectural spirit with a host of unique details. The squared, bulbous lower body is constructed in a dense, tight horizontal twill weave rising to meet a wide openwork hexagonal lattice upper section. The rim is heavily coiled and wrapped in decorative rattan knots tied and wrapped and criss-crossed in multiple methods. Four stout bamboo corner stays punctuate the body extending below the base into four buttress feet that elevate the vessel. Spanning the top is a high-arching overhead handle made from a natural bamboo branch showcasing prominent organic nodes as it sweeps the basket side and is secured to the body with multi-strand rattan bindings. The underside features an open grid floor braced by a prominent four-point cross slat. The bamboo is finished throughout in a rich, uniform deep espresso-colored patina with age polish to the high points. Measures 15 x 6 inches in diameter.
