The following is from the artist's obituary, Lincoln Journal Star, Lincoln, Nebraska, July 27, 2002: Haerer -- Carol, 69, East Hoosick, N.Y., recognized artist and dedicated teacher, passed away July 20, 2002, in Bennington, VT. The daughter of Alfred and Helen (Bozarth) Haerer, Carol was born in Salina, Kan. (1/23/33) and was reared in Nebraska. In 1954, after receiving her BFA in painting from the University of Nebraska, Carol won a Fulbright Fellowship to Paris. While living in Paris, she won a Woolley Fellowship in 1955 and had her first solo exhibition at the Galerie Prisimes in 1956. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and Mexico before returning to the United States to complete her M.A. at the University of California-Berkeley in 1958. She was a founding member of the Berkeley Gallery, the Bay Area's first co-op gallery. After settling in New York City in 1958, Carol further developed her paintings and had her first New York City solo exhibition at the Gordon Gallery in 1963. She continued to play a prominent role in the art world, showing in more than 30 solo exhibitions across the country. Her work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Beach Museum at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.; the University of Kansas Spencer Museum; the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at UNL; the Elder Gallery at Nebraska Wesleyan University; and at Doane College, Crete.
