JAPANESE BASKET BY CHIKUUNSAI DATED 1922, ADAIR ESTATE - The robust globular form in 'disorderly weave' is constructed using thick, wide bamboo stalks that are intact with their natural nodules. The weaving follows a vigorous disordered pattern that creates random openings and apertures. The handle is composed of multiple bundled bamboo slats that are bound at the apex and branch out into triple beam terminals that are secured to the rim with vigorous cross-knotting. Overall, the bamboo possesses a magnificent, deep soot-stained patina with tones of dark chocolate and amber. This fine basket is accompanied by its original signed and dated storage box.
