A FINE & HANDSOME JAPANESE IKEBANA BASKET, ADAIR ESTATE - The outstanding example for flower arranging is constructed using a vigorous disordered weave employing bamboo slats that vary in width and thickness, creating a dynamic, layered surface tinged with patina that darkens in the depths of the weave. With the monumental gnarled bamboo root handle, the artist has integrated a work of art in itself with extreme character, featuring natural ''eyes, '' bumps, and a weathered charcoal-black patina. This handle is integrated into the body via heavy-duty, circular-wrapped terminals and reinforced by secondary root branches that crawl across each side of the basket on four integrated, corded-wrap feet joined by a more orderly horizontal weave that transforms the shape from rounded to squared.
