A FLOWER ARRANGING BASKET BY CHIKUUNSAI, ADAIR ESTATE - The finely patinated basket is constructed in a tapered cylindrical form that flares at the heavy, robustly-wrapped rim above the 'Banana Leaf' weave of open-work diagonal plaiting that creates large, diamond-shaped negative spaces. The basket is crowned by a high, arched handle of twin bamboo branches displaying natural nodules and bound at the apex and terminals in tight braided knots. The original liner and tomobako are included. Inscriptions on the box include the artist's inscription and the description, '' Soot-stained Bamboo 'Banana-leaf' Weave Flared Flower Basket. '' Basket measures 20.25 x 9.5 x 9.5 inches.
