TANABE CHIKUUNSAI BASKET WITH TOMOBAKO, ADAIR ESTATE - The jar-form 'Chinese Style' Japanese flower basket is constructed in a globular form featuring multiple weaves: the upper and lower sections are rendered in a dense horizontal plait, while the ''waist'' of the basket features a transparent window weave. The high, arched handle is composed of multiple layers of bent bamboo secured to the body with complex swirl and star knotting that transitions into elegant braided buttresses. The handle is further decorated with an unusual and very striking geometric block pattern. The base is a thick, rope-twist corded foot, The original hand-turned wooden liner with a rich and signed paulownia wood storage box are included. Basket measures 20.75 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches.
