A LARGE KEYAKI WOOD JAPANESE TANSU FROM SENDAI C. 1850 - The rare circa 1860 eight-drawer iron-mounted chest on wheels is centered by two small doors that open to various small drawers. Much of the metalwork is etched with floral motifs and as ho-ho, or phoenix birds. The case front is beautifully patinated keyaki wood while the sides and drawer sides are a softer secondary wood. Original keys and original vertical bar locks for each bank of drawers are included. Measures 42.5 x 61 x 20 inches.
