Elmer Tomasch was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Western Reserve University and the Cleveland School of Art before receiving his masters degree from K State University in 1956. He was a member of the Kansas Federation of Artists, the Kansas Artist Society and the Prairie Watercolor Society. He served as associate professor of Art at Kansas State University from 1947 to 1977 and was a regionally known artist. He had also worked as a caricaturist and illustrator, later known as an artist concerned with the use of the human figure, stressing that man was both idea and form, per this composition. He had several one-man shows and his works, were regularly included in national and regional exhibitions. Board measures 19.5 x 29.5 with a framed size of 29.25 x 39.25 inches.
