William Dean Fausett was an American muralist and easel painter first educated at Brigham Young University, then the Art Students League, and the Beaux Arts Institute of Design in New York. Early in his career, he worked as a mural assistant to his brother Lynn Fausett and the well-known muralist Hildreth Meiere, with whom he traveled abroad in 1935 to prepare studies for a church mural commission. From 1936 to 1939, he served as artist-in-residence at the Henry Street Settlement House, teaching art to underprivileged communities on New York's Lower East Side. He later directed and taught at the Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, Georgia, and received his first mural commission from the United States Treasury Department while working in the South. Later he lived in and spent most of his career in Dorset, Vermont. His work has been represented in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Museum of Modern Art, as well as numerous university, public, and private collections in the United States and Europe.
