Walter Baum was an influential American painter, educator, and arts organizer associated with American Impressionism and regional landscape painting. Trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, he is best known for founding the Baum School of Art and playing a central role in establishing the Allentown Art Museum. He was also an early advocate for women artists and a key organizer of the Philadelphia Ten, a progressive group of women artists at a time when support for women artists was limited.
