Bidspirit auction | UNIQUE FINE BALUCHE PRAYER RUG,

UNIQUE FINE BALUCHE PRAYER RUG, CIRCA 1880 - The deep camel mihrab with a column of five linked serrated flower heads, between a pair of diagonal banded red and blue poles flanked by two columns of two and a half similar flower heads, a red surround with continuous blue flower heads with the presence of a single white flower head to the shoulder, and two tiny white cruciform flower head centre pieces, all floating on a rich camel ground with similar linked flower head spandrels, within a red and blue reciprocal hooked medacyl border, flatwoven top and bottom end bands. A fine, rare Baluche prayer rug, woven with a very fine weave, and soft lustrous wool. It is often understood that limited use of white in Baluche weavings is invariably favourable compared with those that utilize white extensively in their weavings. This rug takes this ideology to another level, whereby the minimal use of white has effectively 'personalised' this rug by the inclusion of white details as identified., and easily visible, Such additions are not simply an endearing feature but rare in the scheme of things.
