FINE UNUSUAL LAHORE PICTORIAL RUG, MID 20TH CENTURY - The pastel polychrome field with a 17th Century Dutch tapestry inspired design, with an ornate ogival iron frame with two seated figures, a cherub like figure reading an alphabet tablet, opposite a mythological monkey holding a branch, before a layered profusion of flower heads, fruit and foliage, within a similar floral profusion border, a flower head and meandering ribbon border. A very unusual rug, finely woven with an extremely complex design defined by the multi layered profusion of varied blossom. The design appears to be based on, or taken from a Dutch 17th century tapestry design, given the style of the composition. Measures Approximately 76 x 71 inches; 6ft.4 inches x 5ft.11in; 194 x 181cm.
