RARE ORNATE BORLU LONG RUG, WEST ANATOLIA, C 1875 - The red field with three large circular multi layered floral medallions supported by two columns of three serrated cones, with an inscription, top end, reading; Abu Taleb & Sabain Khanoum, within a green border enclosing continuous flame palmettes, alternating with rosettes, linked by angular vines issuing flower heads and leaves, a saffron outer surround enclosing continuous flower heads. This is a fine rare Borlu rug, probably made as a dowry piece given the fact that the inscription bears the two names as stated, likely presenting the names of the bride and groom. Measures Approximately 125 x 54.5in; 10ft.5 inches x 4ft.7in; 318 x 140cm.
