Knaub (Born 1940) Taos Market Late 20th/Early 21st Century The scene of vendors in a 'Taos Market' lit by a low sun just above the horizon is signed lower right front. Their 1950s pick-up is fitted with a wood frame for hanging chile ristras and filled with vegetables and pumpkins. Raymond Knaub is a Nebraska-born artist best known for luminous works of Great Plains and American West realism, like the work up for bid here. He initially attended Baylor University on an athletic scholarship to study math and engineering. It was after a single drawing class that he switched to art and became a painter, earning his BFA at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completing graduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
