A label verso provided the following: Collection of Jim and Virginia Moffett. Barbara Latham was from New England but lived most of her life in the American West. She earned a scholarship and studied graphic design at the Pratt Institute in New York City, graduating in 1919, but fell in love with Taos and New Mexico when she first visited in 1925. She and her husband, the artist Howard Cook, met in Taos and married in 1927. The two eventually bought an adobe house in Ranchos de Taos, where they recorded southwestern culture and color. The total hammer selling price proceeds for this lot benefits the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas. Image measures 7.5 x 9 with a framed size of 18.25 x 20 inches.
