A LATE 19TH CENTURY EAST CAUCASUS LESGHI RUG - The dark blue blue field with one central ivory and two red 'Lesghi' stepped medallions supported by scattered flora forms and animals, within a contrasting broad ivory border enclosing continuous double rams horn medallions, (Kochanak) The presence of 'kochanak' medallions set on an ivory ground in a rug with this design is unusual, and acts as a superb contrast to the intense field composition. Measures approximately 57 x 42 inches; 4ft.9 inches x 3ft.6in; 148 x 107cm.
