Bidspirit auction | A KUBA RUG, THIRD QUARTER
A KUBA RUG, THIRD QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY - The abrashed blue field with a central ivory 'Lesghi' medallion, top and tailed with two similar red medallions supported by all over stepped square flower heads and assorted flora, around a pale blue abrashed band enclosing two figures on horseback opposed by two standing ibex, within an ivory continuous serrated flower head border. A beautifully balanced composition both in terms of design and colour. The pictorial element of riders on horse back and balanced by ibex adds an intriguing, original element to the design. The appearance is enhanced further by the contrasting ivory border with large scale serrated edged flower heads. Measures approximately 55 x 36.5 inches; 4ft.7 inches x 3ft.1in; 140 x 94cm.
