Louis (Luigi) Bosa (1905-1981) Untitled (Carnivalesque Pageant) The oil on Masonite depiction of a surreal masquerade is signed lower right front. Various aspects of the work, from the quirky anatomy of the figures to the vigorous, almost rough, brushstrokes, complete the mood of playful absurdity and surrealism. Bosa was an Italian born artist who emigrated to America when he was 18 and studied in New York under John Sloan. He took part in the Works Progress Administration creating art during the New Deal era and later taught at the Art Students League where he'd been a student himself, the Parsons School of Design, Cleveland Institute of Art, Syracuse University, and the University of Notre Dame. Board measures 8.5 x 18.5 with a framed size of 15.75 x 26 inches.
