Aaron Bohrod (1907-1992) Blue Roses and Peanut Birds Circa 1975 The whimsical and well-framed 'thumb-box' size oil on gesso panel is a fine example of Aaron Bohrod's highly technical trademark technique of ''fool the eye, '' or trompe l'oeil as it's known in French - an approach to painting that dates to fifteenth-century Europe. The work is signed within the image lower right, on a faux painted and gog-eared piece of paper, titled verso. Aaron Bohrod (1907-1992) was a notable and prolific artist renowned for his mastery of the trompe-l'Å“il painting technique, a term that translates from French to English as 'optical illusion' or 'to deceive the eye.' He initially gained recognition as an artist for his social realism genre scenes in the 1930s. After the war, he transitioned to the trompe l'oeil style of which he is an obvious master. The work is displayed i what appears to be its original frame, one of very nice quality. Sight size measures 4.75 x 6.5 with a framed size of 13.25 x 15.25 inches.
