Signed verso on the stretcher and again with the artist's stamp. Born during the Civil War, Fitzgibbon emigrated to Kansas City in 1872. He studied at the National Academy of Design in NYC and the Chicago Art Institute. He served as one of the founding faculty members of the Kansas City Art Association and School of Design, a precursor to the Kansas City Art Institute.
