William Schwartz was an honor student at the Chicago Art Institute. During the Depression he worked under the Federal Art Project (WPA), creating the public murals '' Mining '' for the Century of Progress Exposition (1933), '' Composers '' for Glencoe Public Library (1935), and '' Chicago '' for the Cook County Nurses', all in Illinois. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and his works are held in the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois State Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
