Louis Catusco (1927-1995) Corridor II 1955 The vibrant mixed media interplay of robust vertical and other motifs on saffron ground is signed lower right front. Louis Catusco was born in Liberty, New York. After serving in WWII, he utilized the GI Bill to study at the Brooklyn Museum Art School where he was introduced to abstract expressionism. In 1950 he traveled to Taos, New Mexico to study with Louis Ribak at the Taos Valley Art School. He settled there for good in 1963, becoming a notable figure among the Taos Moderns who brought modernist sensibilities to the well-established Southwest art scene. The movement included names like Emil Bisttram, Janet Lippincott, Agnes Martin and Beatrice Mandelman. Catusco's works are held in many important collections including Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe; Harwood Museum of Art, Taos; Indianapolis Museum of Art: Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha and others.
