Hal Fielding was something of a late-blooming abstractionist, part of the second wave of abstraction in New Mexico, following in the footsteps of the Taos Moderns and mid-century Santa Fe modernists. His artistic evolution began with impressionistic landscapes, churches, and interiors in pastels. He later embraced non-objective abstract painting, primarily using acrylic on canvas. His training and influence included European studies at Renaissance and ancient Roman sites in Rome, Florence, Venice followed by abstract art workshops in Paris.Fielding has exhibited his work through many venues, including galleries in Santa Fe along Canyon Road, Taos, Palm Desert, Phoenix, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Burlington(VT), and even Chichester, England.
