The interesting Modernist composition in a palette reminiscent of the Fauvists is signed lower right front. In her studies, this artist would have also encountered the work of Paul Gaugin who painted in a similar style using flat broad planes of color. Mildred Hammond graduated the Kansas City Art Institute with a degree in sculpture. By 1932 she was teaching at KCAI. Her versatility as an artist sets her apart and is very much on display through the divergent examples of her work in this sale. Canvas measures 16 x 26 inches.
