Walter Alexander Bailey (1894-1989) Autumn Woodlands Circa 1935 The interesting expressionist landscape is signed lower right by the prolific Kansas City artist who painted four 18-foot murals in Municipal Auditorium and two others in the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery of Art in KC. Bailey was born in the Wyandotte County hamlet of Wallula, Kansas, population 15 around the time of his birth. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute under Benton and Wilimovsky - both represented in this sale, and Randall Davey. He was an art instructor who taught landscape painting at the Art Institute and a Master class in Taos, He also worked as an editor in various roles. A label verso confirms this was originally retailed in the Emery Bird Thayer Gallery department store art department. Canvas measures 20 x 25 with a framed size of 25 x 30 inches.
