James Britton Gantt (Missouri, Kansas, 1911-1984) For the Neighbors 1940 The regionalist genre scene, originally consigned by the artist's family, was featured in the 2008 exhibition 'James Gantt: Works From the '30s and 40s' at Franklin Riehlman's Fine Art Gallery in New York City. The tempera is signed lower left and dated '40. Gantt studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, first under Ross Braught and then Thomas Hart Benton. Under the WPA, he completed a number of murals around Kansas City, including one at Paseo High School. Board measures 12.5 x 16.5 with a framed size of 18 x 22 inches.
