Arthur M. Kraft (1922-1977) - ARTHUR KRAFT (1922-1977) INK WASH ON PAPER. Arthur M. Kraft (1922-1977) At The Wedding of Vanity and Ignorance Mid 20th Century The whimsical procession of fantastic figures with human-like expressiveness is signed by the artist lower right front. Reminiscent of Kraft's 7 feet tall, 35 feet long mosaic at the entrance to Kansas City's Children's Library completed in 1960, this procession obviously gives a much different vibe. Like many of Arthur Kraft's works, there is a psychological depth that finds possible explanation through an inscription verso, though the source of the legend inscribed there is unknown. It reads: At The Wedding of Vanity and Ignorance. The guests/characters in the wedding procession are (L. to R.) Miss Pride, Dr. Good Intention, Mr. Sloth, The Unthinking Twins, Prejudice and Habit, Miss Self-pity, The Bride, Vanity and the Groom, Ignorance, the Good Clown FOLLY, Wise SELF RIGHToues and his pet the militant HATE, and MISS FALSE BEAUTY.
