RONALD SLOWINSKI (1932-2023) ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
Ron Slowinski (1932-2023)
(Untitled) Pollen Series
2012
This canvas is signed and dated verso.
Ron Slowinski produced several distinct series of related works during his career. This painting from his Pollen series is an unusual example in various aspects, including the division of the canvas and the expressive brushwork.
Of his Pollen series, Ron said ''The Pollen Series paintings reflect my ongoing interest in surface, color and light. In Navajo religion pollen is a symbol for the life-giving quality of light.''
Ron Slowinski was professor of drawing and painting at the Kansas City Art Institute for 39 years. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning a Certificate of Art in painting in 1954. During the early 1950s, he became involved with a group of fellow abstract expressionist artists in Chicago and co-founded the groundbreaking Wells Street Gallery, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1957.
Throughout his career, Ron participated in more than 60 exhibitions across the United States and Japan, including at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. His work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska, which presented a retrospective of his paintings in 1984.
