Ron Slowinski (1932-2023) Untitled Hopi Flowers Series 1973 This dynamic, multi-layered work in a very unusual palette is from the artist's Hopi Flower series. The work is signed, dated and titled verso. Ron Slowinski produced several distinct series of related works during his career. The Hopi Flower series was inspired by Native American art, specifically Hopi pottery. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning a Certificate of Art in painting in 1954. During the early 1950s, he became involved with a group of fellow abstract expressionist artists in Chicago and co-founded the groundbreaking Wells Street Gallery, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1957. Throughout his career, Ron participated in more than 60 exhibitions across the United States and Japan, including at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. His work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska where a retrospective of his paintings was held in 1984.
