The American Impressionist view of a New England village in winter is signed and dated lower right.
Ivan Summers was born in Illinois and studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts followed by summer studies in Woodstock, New York. Around the time this work was painted he had joined the Salmagundi Club. He later taught at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Charleston Art School in South Carolina. In the 1930s he created etchings under the Works Progress Administration and later for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City.
