The serene, tonalist wooded landscape composition with a low sun is signed lower left.

Leonard Ochtman was married to the American Impressionist Mina Fonda Ochtman. Together they became founding members of the Cos Cob Art Colony in Mianus, Connecticut alongside artists like John Henry Twachtman and Childe Hassam. Leonard was elected a National Academician in 1904.
