The Social Realist composition with farmhands at rest is signed lower right front in black pigment.
Phillip Evergood was a 'People's Painter' respected for making art accessible to the masses. He created public murals for the Works Progress Administration and Evergood paintings are now held in in major institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This painting earned acknowledgement in the exhibition 'American Social Realism 1920 - 1950,' Forum Gallery, New York, New York, January 18 - February 24, 2007.
